Description

TMR-2
Tactical Medium-Range rifle model 2

This is a rifle I'm designing for my book. I actually like how it turned out, and a variation of this is probably going to go into my book. I designed it as the choice weapon for the new and experimental ( and as of yet unamed) military branch that David is in.

----

Diplomatic summary (from my book 'New Beginnings';)

In 2016 the United States was almost running every country behind the scenes due to military presence to 'assist' them. It started in the middle east, and encouraged by their succes, it spread to almost every other weaker nation. By 2014, the U.S. had launched it's daring operation to destroy or confiscate all nuclear weapons. After the destruction of several small countries and hundreds of major cities, the U.S. had acheived it's goal: obtain all enemy nuclear devices as well as infiltrate and monitor other countries governments to refuse them of the ability to produce their own nuclear weapons. Thus was the end of WWIII.
Wars and battles were reduced to minor quarrels and rebellions. Like anything in market, when the damand for weapons was no longer existant, the production of weapons came to a near standstill.

----

Weapon history (Also fictional)

Designed in 2013, the TMR took a while to prove itself, and was of critical opinion in the military leadership because it was considered over-technical and expensive. It was designed at the climax of WWIII, but the war ended before it had a chance to perform. It also had a bad nack of an unprecidented amount of glitching and jamming. The most common examples are the experimental ammo clip that had the bullets sit at an awkward angle that often set them out of position. The granade launcher reloading machanism in the clip that would allow the troop to fire several granades consecutevly also broke often enough for troops to take the granade launcher attatchement entirely off as deadweight.
Then a new model was introduced in 2031, the TMR-2. Although it had been fixed of most of the glitches that plagued it's father model, it was never given a chance to redeem itself. About 2032 commando and some special infantry commanders began to take a liking to it, and it was again noticed.
The experimental branch of the military that David was placed in allows it's men (all 12 of them) to choose their own weapons. This is the favoured weapon of this branch.

Weapon Info.

(My apologies for anything I don't explain effectively. If you have any questions, just ask.)

The TMR is equipped with multiple daring features.
The ammo clip opens from the back instead of inserting the bullets into the top. This allows a box that has the bullets pre-arranged into formation to be slid into the clip after the sides have been ripped off.
The forward-bottom peice of the rifle is easily detatched and replaced with different components. In the sketch above, it is equipped with a granade launcher. Later on, a variation of a beam or lazer attatchement would be added on.
The front grip is shown as a verticall handle. This depends on the current attatchement. The one on now is a granade launcher, so the handle is necessary to fire the granades. To reload, a button near the trigger is pressed, and the handle is pulled back, then into position again. A new granade is mechanically loaded into the barrel by this motion. Therefore several granades can be launched quickly and efficiently. A hatch a the side of the granade ammo clip allows more granades to be quickly inserted without pulling out the whole clip.
On the top of the rifle, just behind the beginning of the visible barrel is the camera. This nifty feature allows the weapon bearer to stick the rifle around corners and see what he/she's shooting at without risking him/herself. The images received by the camera are sent through both short-range radio waves, and a chord that attatches to the soldier's helmet. The image is then displayed to the soldier by alternative viewing means.
The stock is adjustable. It can come fully in, or extend another two inches than shown. The stock also contains a battery in that area, seen on the picture. It can easily be released and detatched as well as replaced. Although the rifle operates machanically for the most part, the camera on top requires power, as well as many attatchments.
Fig. 2 is of a simple flashlight. It has it's own battery, but can also plug into one of the ten ports on the gun (five on each side) in case it's battery life expires before it's done being used.
Fig. 3 A simple lazer pointer. Only visible when wearing special goggles.
Fig. 4 A rangefinder that gives the soldier info on the enemie's position. Require special viewing device.

I've figured out every technical thing about this to the nut and gear, but it would take a book to write it all out. If you would like to know any more about anything, I would be happy to tell you. :D I'm weird like that. I used a couple referance pictures of about six other existing rifles, but only as research. I didn't copy, mix, whatever with other rifles. Any similarities are purely coincidental.

There are many other attatchments and features that I have not mentioned. Everything in this picture has a purpose. I added nothing for show. If you have any questions (and if you're still crazy enough to be reading this much) PLEASE comment, note, whatever. :D

Hope ya' like it!

Um... I guess I wrote more than I expected too. Got a little into it. ^^;
